Mojave Airport Plane Crazy Saturday

The Mojave Airport hosted the second Plane Crazy Saturday fly-in on February 21. This is planned to be a monthly event. The number of visiting airplanes was nearly 1/3 of the number of visiting people. A documentary film crew and actors for a National Geographic show were also present on the flightline. Put the event on your schedule for March 21.

Canadair Sabre Mk.6 N38453 is restored as U.S. Air Force F-86F, 51-13487. It is registered to Al Hansen. It flew for the South African Air Force as #378. It was registered by Flight Systems in October 1983. It was acquired by Global Aerospace of Newport Beach, California in September 1992. It has been owned by Al Hansen since October 6, 1994.
Grumman S2F-1 Tracker N8110X is reported to have been sold to an owner in Ontario, Oregon. Its construction number is 307. It was delivered to the U.S. Navy as BuNo 136398 in 1958.
Fouga CM 170 Magister N433FG was built in 1963. Its construction number is 433. It has been owned by Andrew Sharp since September 12, 2008.
North American T-28B Trojan N328RB Sooo Divine was delivered to the U. S. Navy as BuNo 137645. After retirement from the Navy, it was operated by the US Forestry Service at Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1966 to 1972. It was delivered to MASDC for storage on May 5, 1976. It entered the civil register as N132Z. Ed Hotelling of Prescott, Arizona acquired it in 2000 and registered it as N328RB. It made an emergency landing on the beach at Oxnard, California on April 34, 2007. Albert Hansen bought it on November 21, 2007.
Flugzeugbau GMBH Extra 300 N300PN has been owned by Charles Coleman on November 30, 2007. Its construction number is 002.
Nemesis NXT N333XT, Race #3 was built in 2004. It is owned by Kon Sharp. It qualified for the 2008 Reno Air Races at a record-breaking 409 miles per hour.

Antonov An-2 N91292 was formerly registered LY-AFT. It has been registered to Flying Billboards LLC since December 12, 2000. It was manufactured by PZL-MIELEC, and its construction number is 1G17816. It has been sitting around the airport since 2003.
SAAB A32 Lansen N4432V was built in 1958. Its construction number is 32284. It has been registered to the United States Airpower Museum since March 22, 2006.

ex-Alaska Airlines McDonnell-Douglas MD-83 N934AS is standing in as a Northwest Airlines 727 for a National Geographic documentary about D. B. Cooper. Its construction number is 49235. It made its first flight on September 27, 1985. It was delivered to Alaska Airlines on November 16, 1985. It suffered substantial damage during an emergency landing at Fairbanks International Airport on February 5, 1999 following control system problems on take-off from Anchorage International Airport. MidAmerican Aerospace acquired it on January 17, 2007 and sold it to Interglobal Incorporated on May 24, 2007. It was stored at Mojave on November 9, 2007. It was going to be operated by Aerocalifornia but the airline ceased operations on July 23, 2008.
Piper PA-22-135 Tri-Pacer N2293A was built in 1952. Its construction number is 22-680. It has been registered to Thomas Nault since May 11, 2005.
Piper PA-22-160 Tri-Pacer N9405D was built in 1958. Its construction number is 22-6378. It has been registered to Katie Christman since November 19, 1984.
Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee Arrow N9045J was built in 1966. Its construction number is 28-3076. It has been registered to Arthur Landsgaard since February 28, 1987.

Berkut N268DK was built by Dick Rutan and has been registered to him since January 26, 2009. Its construction number is 059. It made its first flight eight days earlier on Friday the thirteenth of February. It is the first Berkut powered by a Lycoming Thunderbolt 540 engine.
